On July 3, 2005, around 2:00am, Eric was a passenger in a car going approximately 70 mph when the driver lost control of the vehicle. Eric J. Kalber did not survive the accident. He was only 20 years old.
To honor Eric's memory, a scholarship was set up in his name at Xavier High School in Middletown, CT. In order to raise money for the Eric J. Kalber Memorial Scholarship, we have a yearly car show. All proceeds go directly to the scholarship fund.
We honor Eric's memory by having this car show and promoting safe driving throughout the year.

Born the son of Bob & Sheri Kalber (Amato) on December 11, 1984, I must say I was a cutie! I was funny, lovable, a little mischievous. Through the years, those traits grew as I did. I raced quarter-midgets, played T-ball, soccer, was on the YMCA Barracudas Swim Team & hung out with my friends. I enjoyed life. On July 3, 2005, some friends and I went to a party, like we had many times before, but that night I made the worst decision of my life. As we raced down a backcountry road over 70mph, the car went out of control and rolled over. For my mom, dad, sister, family and friends... Life would never be the same. So much unsaid and undone. During my 20 years on earth, I tried to life Life to the fullest. It was not long enough. I would ask each of you reading this to party safe, be a good friend and watch out for others. |
Over the years we have strived to make the day a celebration of Eric's love for anything with wheels. It is a festive day where old friends, new friends and family come together for good food, good music, and good times.
Since the accident, Eric's aunt has been speaking to students about the dangers of drinking and driving and speeding at CC Driving School in Tolland, CT.
